What you need to know

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Screamfest provides a platform for independent filmmakers, offering support to both emerging and established talent in the industry. With a keen eye for franchise-making films and a commitment to introducing fresh ideas and perspectives, Screamfest showcases thrilling premieres and engaging post-screening activities that foster creative growth and community.

To ensure a seamless film submission process, we highly recommend carefully reviewing our submission guidelines. **FilmFreeway has varying deadline date differences compared to submitting through the Screamfest website.**

Feature Films

Feature-length (40 minutes or longer) narrative films completed after Jan 1, 2026 that have not screened publicly in the LOS ANGELES COUNTY region prior to SHFF27.

Submitted films cannot have had ANY public screening (including cast and crew screening), broadcast, distribution, or exhibition before October 5, 2027.

Feature films accepted to participate in the SHFF27 will be shown in the section determined most appropriate by Festival programmers, in their sole discretion.

Short Films

Short-length (under 40 minutes) narrative and animated films that have not screened publicly in the LOS ANGELES COUNTY region prior to SHFF27.

Films must have been completed after January 1, 2026. Competing short films must be no more than a year old at the time of the festival in October 2027. Short films older than this time frame can still screen out of competition during the festival.

Submitted films cannot have had ANY public screening (including cast and crew screening), broadcast, distribution, or exhibition before October 5, 2027.

Short films selected to participate in SHFF27 will be shown in the section determined most appropriate by festival programmers, in their sole discretion.
